JavaCard

JavaCard provides an interoperable execution platform, and allows to store and update multiple applications on a single device. Existing smart card standards are supported by the JavaCard technology. JavaCard technology makes it easy to integrate the CrypToken into a complete Java software solution.

Benefits of JavaCard:

  • Interoperable: Independently of the card vendor and underlying hardware, applets developed with JavaCard technology will run on any JavaCard technology-enabled smart card.
  • Secure: JavaCard technology provides a secure execution environment by relying on the inherent security of the Java programming language. Designed through an open process, the platform's proven industry deployments and security evaluations ensure that card issuers benefit from the most capable and secure technology available today.
  • Multi-Application-Capable: On a single CrypToken multiple applications can co-exist securely, enabled by the JavaCard technology.
  • Dynamic: After a card has been issued, the administrators are able to add new applications quickly and react to customer's needs in a dynamical manner.
  • Compatible with Existing Standards: the JavaCard API meets standards like ISO7816, or EMV and major industry-specific standards such as Global Platform and ETSI refer to it.
  • RSA support: Onboard 2048 Bit RSA encryption.
  • Development tools: IBM JCOP Tools 3.0 ("JCOP Tools") provide a set of development tools for the successful development, testing, and deployment of applications for any generic OpenPlatform JavaCard, with specific support for the IBM JCOP platform.

The CrypToken MX2048 JCOP supports JavaCard version 2.3.1

The Java programming language provides for developers creating JavaCard applications advantages like:

  • Saving time though object-oriented programming yields greater code modularity and reusability
  • Powerful off-the-shelf development tools for developers are readily available.
  • Protection features characteristic of the Java programming language apply to JavaCard applets, enforcing strong typing and protection attributes.
